You’ve read that right. You can get paid for your Playstation Trophies. But, there’s a small catch to it. You’ll earn very little money.
Your Gamerscore or Trophy score used to be a bragging right among friends and the online gaming community. That’s all it was. Showboating. Now, you’ll get rewarded for your Playstation Trophies.
Sony updated their rewards website with a webpage that describes how many points you’ll receive for your trophies. According to the site, you’ll get the following:
- Silver Trophy: 1 Point
- Gold Trophy: 10 Points
- Platinum Trophy: 100 Points
Once you’ve reached a collection of 1,000 points, you’ll be able to exchange them for a $10 PSN voucher. While that doesn’t sound like a lot, you’re still virtually getting paid to play video games. Don’t forget, if you’re interested in this, you’ll have to sign up for the Sony Rewards program. This is currently only available in the United States.
Don’t think it will be worth it? Check this out for perspective: PSN user Roughdaw4 has the record for the highest trophy count. He’s sitting at the top with roughly 15,000 Silver Trophies, 7,000 Gold Trophies, and 1,400 Platinum Trophies. With the current exchange, he’s potentially sitting on $1,500 of money he’s earn from playing video games. Not a bad hobby to have.
Rumor has it that an Xbox executive praised Sony for their new program. This inspired the exec to say Microsoft will start their own version of this because competition is good. How soon will we see Microsoft implement a rewards program like this? Only time will tell.
